Meet Dr. Riley

Dr. Riley

Riley Smith, acupuncturist in San Diego CAAs the son of a professional football player and collegiate coach and whose mother was the quintessential Southern California “weekend warrior” athletics, fitness and health were engrained into me from day one. From early on, nutrition, exercise and a focus on body-mind balance was always a pivotal aspect of my life.

Originally from Portland, Oregon but able to call many parts of the country “home” due to my father’s profession I returned to Southern California over 12 years ago. At university, I graduated cum laude and pursued a triple major earning an Honors BS in Management, a BS in Marketing and a BA in Spanish. Along the way, I took many electives ranging from yoga to Qi Gong to practically the entire set of requirements to graduate as a pre-med student. Forever the career student here!

Upon graduation, I entered the corporate world and while boardrooms, presentations, suits and constant travel kept me active and nourished my pocketbook it did not feed my soul. After nearly a decade in the rat race I contemplated my next move. I knew that my interests in nutrition, health, wellness, alternative healing, and medicine, along with the strong desire to serve and never stop learning absolutely had to converge somehow.

I discovered Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego and not being a stranger to acupuncture an alternative health care, it was a natural fit. 6 years of post-graduate study, 6 months of board exams, nearly a decade of private practice and a few extra gray hairs later, I’ve never looked back.  I love what I do for a living and its proof that you’re never too old and its never too late to make a shift thats in alignment with your purpose.  If my story speaks to you, I hope you gather some inspiration!

To respect your budget: both time and financial

To share clear and concise information and instruction

To assist you in finding the right care if I can not provide it for you

To provide personalized medical care

To help you understand how you can help yourself. Its a two-way street

To show up as your advocate and help you get the most out of life

To be a resource for you.  It is an honor and a privilege to serve

To treat and include you as one part of a larger family of patients taking ownership of their health

…………………………………………………………………………………

The opportunity to deliver superior patient care in a compassionate, fun and easy-to-understand yet professional manner is what gets me up in the morning and drives every decision that I make.  Despite a over a decade of practice and thousands of patients treated, everyday is still new.  Lifelong learning, meaningful partnerships with my patients and community building are my passions. It is an honor and privilege to include you.

I can humbly attest that nothing becomes out of balance in the body without effecting the system as a whole.  It all matters: body, mind and spirt. Long ago, this fundamental truth was a part of Western medicine. However, it remains a basic tenet of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to this day.

I believe in empowering my patients with knowledge and treatment before any imbalance arrives. This makes acupuncture and herbal medicine one of the most effective ways to stay healthy and balanced before dis-ease appears.

If you come to see me with a specific health concern, I pledge to you to deliver my personal best to help treat and, if necessary, find the appropriate care for you that might even be outside of my scope or expertise.  My goal is your health and wellness- not to endlessly treat without a clear, mutually agreed upon objective.

I am fortunate to have a wide network of Medical Doctors and other specialists with whom I refer patients to and vice versa when necessary. This is an exciting time in our history as we continue to collaborate across modalities creating the best outcomes for patients.
