So, this is my first post. I know, the obligatory first stab at this not knowing what to say or how to say it so, I’m just gonna SAY it! It feels kind of cheesy and awkward but I hope to look back on this one day and say, “DANG I’ve come a long way!” Not only that, but it would be disingenuous to you, dear reader, to start posting as if I’ve been doing this all my life because the simple truth is I have not and we all have to start somewhere.
So, back to the title. Am I crazy? I mean, its not like I don’t have enough going on already. A successful and busy practice where I am able to assist tons of people whom I deeply care about, a loving partner and family in my personal life, lots of great friends, hobbies, travel. And.. oh yeah… the normal life stuff like groceries, errands, gym, bills….you get the idea.
Short answer- no. I am not crazy for doing this. I have always professed and believed that we have so much to learn from other people’s life stories and what they do day in and day out. I’ll admit, Ive had a good run. My life is full and meaningful. Not without trials and tribulations but in the grand scheme I have much to be grateful for. That being said, there are always nuggets of wisdom to be learned.
Things that I think might be banal and boring could have a possible lightbulb A-HA! moment for someone else so who am I to say what is and isn’t meaningful? Same holds true the other direction. I learn so much from others- strangers in the grocery store line (yes, Im that guy), my patients, friends, loved ones, you name it. I love people and the stories that they have and I hope to learn more from others that might choose to comment on my posts if it feels right to them.
This is such a total 180 for me. I have always (and still do) value my private life. I shied away from social media for a long time showing anything too private or personal. Hell, I just got a smart phone a year ago! So what’s changed? Well, I think its more that its just a full integration of who I am and what I believe. That I enjoy people and their stories and what can be learned from them.
Its also a natural extension of my professional life. I was drawn to this medical modality over others because, by its very nature, it provides the time and space to get to know people on a much deeper personal level. I am honored that patients feel they can trust me with stories, worries and successes that they tell very few others if anyone at all. That trust is something I would never break. Therefore, this feels very natural to me.
The full circle of sharing, caring and supporting one another now has a digital place to rest. I hope that you gain as much from this as I do and enjoy the process as will I. Together, we will embark on this journey and I can’t wait to come back one day to see how much we have grown together!
